What the EcoBio-Block IS
The EcoBio-Block is a porous volcanic rock and cement block that contains beneficial bacteria spores, which are activated by organic waste in water. This helps clarify aquarium water and contributes to a balanced and healthy tank ecosystem.
What the EcoBio-Block is NOT
The EcoBio-Block is NOT a basic lava rock.
It is also not a complete replacement for good aquarium maintenance basics, although it does make maintenance easier with fewer water changes required.

EcoBio-Block and the Nitrogen Cycle
EcoBio-Block is made from porous volcanic rock, cement, bacteria-supporting nutrients, and beneficial bacteria that are gradually released when the block is immersed in water. The volcanic rock quickly absorbs pollutants and helps stabilize them within its porous structure, making organic waste easier for the bacteria to break down. These beneficial bacteria convert ammonia from fish waste, uneaten food, and other organic matter into nitrites and then into safer nitrates. This conversion — from ammonia to nitrites and then to nitrates — is a key part of the aquarium’s natural nitrogen cycle. By supporting this process, EcoBio-Block helps clarify aquarium water and maintain a healthier, more stable ecosystem.

Is EcoBio-Block Safe?
Yes, EcoBio-Block is safe for all fish, even delicate ones, as well as other aquatic life such as shrimp, frogs, and turtles.
How do I use the EcoBio-Block?
Rinse the block in chlorine-free water and soak overnight before placing in an aquarium or paludarium.
How Long Does it Take to Work?
It normally takes 2-6 weeks for the beneficial bacteria colony to start impacting water conditions. However, due to the fact that live organisms are involved and that conditions in aquariums and ponds vary widely, you will see results as quickly as in two days, or in rare cases, it may take as long as 3 months. If your tank is taking longer than normal to show results, we would be happy to extend your warranty; just call us.
How Many EcoBio-Blocks do I Need?
Generally, you need one EcoBio-Block Aqua or EcoBio-Stone L per 50 to 100 gallons of water; one EcoBio-Stone M per 15 to 60 gallons of water, or one EcoBio-Stone S per 4 to 20 gallons of water. This is for tanks that are in good or better condition. For tanks with extra fish or in poor condition, please choose the next size up or an additional product.
